New Industrial Poughkeepsie was a paper project produced by Outwith in 2011. The city of Poughkeepsie was at a crossroads. Still suffering from the recession and increasing disinvestment from its urban core, the city is leveraging its future on the redevelopment of its waterfront as a tourist destination for day travelers in the Hudson Valley and New York City. However, given the capricious nature of tourism, this is a potential dangerous and wasteful opportunity.
Rather than tourism, what if the city tried to reimagine its waterfront as the industrial hub for the Hudson Valley? Its proximity to rail lines, the highway, the Hudson River, and New York City make the Poughkeepsie waterfront an ideal location for an innovative industrial district that blends recreational activities with the manufacturing economy.
