About Outwith

Outwith Studio is a planning, design, and spatial strategy practice. We critically apply data analysis, engagement processes, storytelling, and digital tooling to make better plans and communities. We want to build new worlds for equity, autonomy, and fun, and we like to get messy in the space between the physical and digital.

June McCartin

June is an urban planner, teacher, and researcher based in Philadelphia. She began her career in Baltimore City politics and policy, before turning to planning. She previously served as a planner and Director of Urban Design at Utile and as a housing planner at Boston’s regional planning association, MAPC. In these roles, she gained rich experience in comprehensive planning, housing policy, planning for public health, industrial land uses, scenario analysis, and community engagement (both IRL and virtual). She has taught GIS for Architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology and Community Practice at the Boston Architectural College, and she has lectured and reviewed student work at Northeastern, Harvard GSD, MassArt, and Vassar College. A former Fulbright scholar in Glasgow, she holds a BA in Urban Studies from Vassar and a Masters in Urban Planning from Harvard GSD.

Outwith Studio assembles ad hoc teams of independent professionals to address each project. Contributors include design strategist Willy Mann (a thought-partner since the beginning!) and researcher Esti Shapiro.
