Team

June McCartin

June is an urban planner, teacher, and researcher based in Philadelphia. She began her career in Baltimore City politics and policy, before turning to planning. She previously served as a planner and Director of Urban Design at Utile and as a housing planner at Boston’s regional planning association, MAPC. In these roles, she gained rich experience in comprehensive planning, housing policy, planning for public health, industrial land uses, scenario analysis, and community engagement (both IRL and virtual).

She has taught GIS for Architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology and Community Practice at the Boston Architectural College, and she has lectured and reviewed student work at Northeastern, Harvard GSD, MassArt, and Vassar College. A former Fulbright scholar in Glasgow, she holds a BA in Urban Studies from Vassar and a Masters in Urban Planning from Harvard GSD.

Esti Shapiro

Esti Shapiro is a multidisciplinary designer, writer, and researcher based in Chicago. Trained as an architect, Esti‘s work might be described as intertwining of personal and political practices, in resistance toward inherited harms and support of radically imagined futures. Esti has worked in design firms in Denver, Boston, and Chicago. They have taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Columbia College Chicago, and have served as an Editor of the Wentworth Architecture review and Artists Need Art Historians.

Esti holds an MA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as an M.Arch and BS in Architecture with a concentration in Urbanism and minor in Media, Culture, and Communication Studies from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Willy Mann

Willy is a design strategist based in Oakland and Outwith’s design principal. He has been telling stories, analyzing data, and designing experiences in various capacities for over a decade. While an Outwith principal, he is also a data analyst and designer for Salesforce. He previously held workplace strategy roles in real estate (Newmark Knight Frank and Savills Studley) and performed design strategy in the architecture world (Vital/Nash Hurley and MK Think). Willy has immersed himself in industrial land use data, and previously held a research fellowship at SF Made and produced visual stories for the Cradle 2 Cradle Products Innovation Institute.
